2 cups plain (all purpose) flour
1/2 cup table salt
2 tablespoons cream of tartar
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 tablespoons glycerin
1 1/2 cups boiling water.
Put the flour, salt and cream of tartar in a large bowl and whisk.
Add the oil, glycerin and boiling water (plus colouring) and combine using a spatula.
Leave to cool for 10 minutes then kneed well for a few minutes until soft and pliable.
If making the cupcake party favours take a ball of dough, add to a silicone cupcake case and decorate. Add a candle, place in a presentation cellophane bag and add a ribbon.
I decorated this with small buttons but you could use any similar size sequins or craft supplies.
Note: glycerin can be bought in large bottles in pharmacies far cheaper than the baking supply section of supermarkets.
Cream of tartar is located with baking powder in the baking supplies section of supermarkets.
I found a few drops of liquid food colouring added to the boiling water gave a better result than paste colours.
